A quick fast read divided in three parts, which explains how Melanie became to be a OSI agent。 There is a lot of background information which did drag on a bit。 Maybe a flashback scenario would have been more interesting。 Once you get to the part of Melanie undercover work the pages were turning at an incredible rate。 Overall a good read。 Thank you NetGalley for this eARC。 I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story。 #NetGalley #TheWildSide

I felt that this book is a very slow starter, as in almost the whole first half followed the MC from elementary school through her first job and everything in between, and I mean everything in excruciating detail。 MelDrake’s OSI career follows but flies by quickly and suddenly she is a guidance counselor。I was ok with it, until around 55% when the author chose to insert a hot political topic which really wasn’t necessary。 I don’t write spoilers, so I won’t say what it involves, but it pretty muc I felt that this book is a very slow starter, as in almost the whole first half followed the MC from elementary school through her first job and everything in between, and I mean everything in excruciating detail。 MelDrake’s OSI career follows but flies by quickly and suddenly she is a guidance counselor。I was ok with it, until around 55% when the author chose to insert a hot political topic which really wasn’t necessary。 I don’t write spoilers, so I won’t say what it involves, but it pretty much made me think less of the book。 Just my personal opinion, I’m sure others will breeze right past and not be concerned。Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own。 。。。more

I read a pre-publication copy of this ebook, thanks to Netgalley。 Fern Michaels is, of course, a long-established successful novelist, who has a long list of well-loved books to her credit。 The Wild Side will join those loved books。 It features likable, relatable characters, an unusual but believable storyline, a very subtle love story developing under the primary mystery plot。 I really appreciate the skill it takes to develop a love story without any overt reference to it until the end。 Excelle I read a pre-publication copy of this ebook, thanks to Netgalley。 Fern Michaels is, of course, a long-established successful novelist, who has a long list of well-loved books to her credit。 The Wild Side will join those loved books。 It features likable, relatable characters, an unusual but believable storyline, a very subtle love story developing under the primary mystery plot。 I really appreciate the skill it takes to develop a love story without any overt reference to it until the end。 Excellent writing and a very enjoyable read! The synopsis of this book had me intrigued, but it took a really long time for the plot to get to the part I was excited about。 I think the book had potential, and if it was the first in a series, I'd understand the lengthy character development。 It's not a typical Fern Michals book, but is a standalone novel。 The synopsis of this book had me intrigued, but it took a really long time for the plot to get to the part I was excited about。 I think the book had potential, and if it was the first in a series, I'd understand the lengthy character development。 It's not a typical Fern Michals book, but is a standalone novel。 。。。more

Thank you to Kensington Books & NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion。 This book was all over the place。 It was marketed as a thriller, but honestly it read more like a biographical suspense story。 It was written in third person POV which is not my favorite, and it didn’t really work with the story。 The first two parts of the book felt like a biography of Melanie’s life, and lists of her accolades。 The third part of the book started to detail her current life, but Thank you to Kensington Books & NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion。 This book was all over the place。 It was marketed as a thriller, but honestly it read more like a biographical suspense story。 It was written in third person POV which is not my favorite, and it didn’t really work with the story。 The first two parts of the book felt like a biography of Melanie’s life, and lists of her accolades。 The third part of the book started to detail her current life, but then backtracked right into her old life again。 I will say I enjoyed how fast paced it was, but each chapter became a tedious repetition of her tasks at work。 If you enjoy this type of writing it could be the book for you, but it was not for me。This is the story of Melanie, who becomes obsessed with rules as a child。 The book details her life as she becomes an officer for OSI at the federal government level。 And describes her job training, and jobs afterwards。 Trigger warning -sexual assault-kidnapping 。。。more

I really liked this book。 It was a great story and no real violence。 Melanie starts her career with the Office of Special Investigations。 After 15 years she decides to change careers and begin a new career as a guidance counselor and hopes to help children before they become bad adults。Shortly after starting her new career, she is approached by her old boss to help with four jobs regarding national security。 Thus, starts her walk on the wild side。 She is chosen because she was so good at her job I really liked this book。 It was a great story and no real violence。 Melanie starts her career with the Office of Special Investigations。 After 15 years she decides to change careers and begin a new career as a guidance counselor and hopes to help children before they become bad adults。Shortly after starting her new career, she is approached by her old boss to help with four jobs regarding national security。 Thus, starts her walk on the wild side。 She is chosen because she was so good at her job but also because her uncle had taught her some magician tricks as she was growing up。 The agency felt she was good with sleight of hand and could put something in someone's pocket and/or take something out。 This was useful in the jobs she was callled to do。I thought it was a great read。 。。。more

I got an ARC of this and I’m grateful。 However I must say, big oof。 There was so much backstory and fluff and not much excitement at all。 Once you finally got to what was supposed to be the suspenseful parts they were so short and then it was back to the fluff。 This was not a winner for me。

Her skills at reading people make her a natural at the job, and she’s loving it。 Then a former coworker calls…They need her to go on a few assignments as a high-class “companion” to solve a few cases。 Her pull to her former life is strong, and she agrees - with very interesting outcomes。 I do feel like this ended a bit hastily, and I can totally see this becoming a series, so I wonder if that’s why things were kind of left unresolved。 I’d definitely read another book with Melanie in it; she’s quite the character。 Overall, I really enjoyed reading this one (and I loved the dogs named Cosmo and Kramer, nice touch!)。 I’m giving this one 3。5 stars, rounded up。(Thank you to Kensington Books, Fern Michaels and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review。 This book is slated to be released on March 26, 2024。) 。。。more

I won’t lie, I had to DNF this ARC。 I wanted to like it so badly, but with the first SEVERAL chapters being what felt like unnecessary background dating back to the FMC’s childhood I just felt bored。 The writing itself was good, don’t get me wrong, but it just never captured my attention in the way I wanted it to。 Maybe this book is better suited for those that enjoy more of a slow burn story line。 Very, very slow burn。
